Job Overview

Clinical:
Provide inpatient and day hospital service for adolescents with major mental health problems referred by CAMHS Tier 3/3.5 Services. Age range of referrals is 13 to 18 years. Referrals for young people with learning disability (unless mild) and substance misuse as a primary problem are not accepted. The post holder will hold clinical responsibility for a mixture of children admitted to the day hospital and inpatients, decided in discussion with the consultant colleague.

• Provide psychiatric assessment, risk assessment and treatment for adolescents admitted to the day and inpatient services.
• Work with the MDT to assess and deliver treatment and develop evidence‑based care plans.
• Coordinate multiagency packages of care and provide consultation to professionals in the wider network.
• Contribute to the BEH out of hours consultant psychiatric on‑call rota and audit psychiatric practice.

• Develop common clinical policies and guidelines for the team.
• Work within the operational management group to identify service development areas and implement improvement plans.
• Collaborate with NHS England Case Managers and implement the transition to New Models of Care.
• Maintain Trust values and QNIC standards and participate in the Healthcare Governance programme.
• Attend and chair regular meetings and submit clinical activity returns.

• Liaise with other services, agencies and professionals as appropriate to clinical work and service development.
• Link with adult mental health, learning disability services and transfer of care for young people at 18 years in accordance with the Trust Adolescent Transition Protocol.
• Offer supervision to the AOT team and nursing team during the referral screening process and liaise with NHS England commissioners for complex cases.

• Set and monitor clinical standards and participate in clinical audit.
• Engage in service/team evaluation and plan future developments.
• Actively participate in clinical governance meetings.

• Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
• Listed on the Specialist Register of the GMC Medical Register or eligible to register within six months.
• Approved under Section 12 (2) of the 1983 Mental Health Act and approved clinician status.
• Consultant or ST6 level experience in child and adolescent psychiatry.
• Experience assessing and treating patients in acute and community psychiatric settings.
• Membership of a professional indemnity organisation.
• Annual appraisal engagement and safeguarding children framework experience.
• Multi‑disciplinary teaching experience.
• Leadership capability in a multidisciplinary team and staff morale.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatry.
• DBT skills/training.
• Publications in the field of psychiatry.
• Management training and skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
