Overview

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The post holder will provide a comprehensive, specialist nursing service for clients with a diagnosis of First Episode Psychosis within the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde area. The post holder will take a lead role in promoting partnership working within the mental health network, both internally and externally. The post holder will have responsibility for profession-specific clinical governance activity within the Early Intervention team for First Episode Psychosis, which will include monitoring standards of care and service, staff support, continuing professional learning, continuous development, supporting practice education for under and postgraduate students, clinical supervision, and the implementation of policy and clinical guidelines.

The post holder will have responsibility for the management of both their own community caseload and the management and supervision of Support Workers and students within their designated nursing team. The post holder is responsible for the provision of care and treatment to patients experiencing a First Episode Psychosis. The aim of the service is to promote a vision of recovery as indicated by: maximising levels of engagement, maximising contact with families and carers, minimising psychotic symptoms, patients spending less time in hospital with less use of the mental health act, fewer incidents of self-harm, increased user and carer satisfaction, increased number and range of interventions, improved social functioning — all of which aim to reduce stigma and enable service users to retain access to ordinary activities.

It is essential that applicants are a Registered Mental Health Nurse.
