Location: Greater London

King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is inviting applications for a Specialist Stroke Nurse to join the Friends Stroke Unit at Denmark Hill. The role has a strong focus on evidence‑based stroke care and is part of a high‑performance Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) team that values research, innovation and patient‑centred care. The successful candidate will work closely with an interdisciplinary team, providing acutely unwell patients with post‑thrombolysis and post‑thrombectomy care and coordinating goal‑focused stroke rehabilitation to optimise outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualized, holistic patient care in conjunction with the inter‑professional team.
  • Maintain a high standard of clinical work when carrying out nursing procedures.
  • Responsible for the safe custody of medication, including checking and administration.
  • Ensure compliance with the clinical governance framework, motivate colleagues, champion service‑user safety and dignity and drive continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate professional behaviour at all times.
  • Ensure and maintain updated statutory and mandatory training essential to the line of work.
  • Practice integrity and beneficence in work.
  • Provide support and advice to ward/unit staff, liaise effectively with the MDT and discharge coordinators to ensure effective admission/discharge of patients.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Registered Nurse (RN1) with active UK NMC registration at time of starting appointment.
  • Awareness and understanding of current acute health issues.
  • Understanding of NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Clinical expertise relevant to the stroke area (desirable).
Skills and Competencies
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members.
  • Ability to lead a team to achieve results (desirable).
  • Exercising leadership and taking initiative where appropriate.
  • Acting as a role model at all times for all staff.
