Neonatology Matron

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Neonatal-qualified Nurse to step into the role of Matron for the Neonatal service at West Middlesex University Hospital.

Our maternity service is one of the busiest in London and was given an Outstanding rating by the CQC, and our neonatal services take pride in the quality of care that we deliver and work closely with our sister unit – a Level 3 surgical referral NICU in the Chelsea site. Our services continue to grow as we redesignate the unit to a busy Level 2 LNU with a dedicated Consultant Neonatologist cover and specialist nursing and allied health professional teams, working together to deliver advanced neonatal medical and surgical care.

To lead the neonatal nursing workforce, recruitment and retention strategy. The post holder will deputize for the Lead Nurse for Neonatal Services, and cover for the NICU Matron in Chelsea site, where appropriate.

Job responsibilities

1.0 OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT

1.1 Provide management support for the Neonatal Nursing Team, ensuring the effective day-to-day management, operation and delivery of services of the Unit in line with directorate and Trust corporate objectives.

1.2 Be responsible for the production, implementation and revision of operational policies in Neonatal Services.

1 .4 Maintain and develop a flexible baby and family friendly environment which meets NSF quality standards.

1.5 Responsible for the monitoring of the cleanliness of the department and allied areas undertaking a monthly cleaning audit.

1.6 Monitor the implementation of the Trust infection prevention and control policy and its application to the neonatal area. Responding to infection issues and challenges with a coordinated plan.

1.7 Deputize in the absence of the Lead Nurse, and provide senior nursing cover for neonatal services cross-site, as necessary.

1.7 Participate in Senior On-site Rota for West Middlesex Hospital, including out-of-hours cover, weekends and bank holidays.

2.0 PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

21 Manage expenditure for designated budgets within the neonatal services and take responsibility for initiating corrective action as appropriate, in discussion with, and reporting to the Lead Nurse for Neonatal Services, Service Director, and Clinical Director.

2.2 Play an active role in identifying areas within the neonatal services, where expenditure can be reduced and/or income generated.
