Senior Cardiac Physiologist – independent, experienced multidisciplinary physiologist leading a sub‑team in a busy non‑invasive cardiac investigation service.
Main Duties
Accountable to Principal Cardiac Physiologist Manager.Develop advanced diagnostic skills to provide comprehensive invasive and non‑invasive cardiac investigation services within the Trust and to the local community.Contribute to the delivery of a safe, high‑quality cardiac investigation service responsive to patient and clinician needs.Ensure successful implementation and rollout of service improvements or new innovations that enhance quality and safety.Independently analyse 24‑hour ECG tape; extend professional training by completing BSE/HRUK for Echocardiography and complex pacemakers.Acquire competency in pacemaker follow‑ups and implants; perform cardiac investigations on wards especially for high‑dependency and critical patients.Work towards performing and reporting independent Echocardiograms, maintaining high professional standards and pursue BSE accreditation where possible.Provide independent pacemaker implants and follow‑up clinic procedures for basic and complex generators.Actively perform ECG, exercise stress testing and reporting.Obtain and sustain independence in pacemaker clinics and implants.Provide independent 24‑hour tape analysis.Ensure patient care during procedure (including manual handling) and maintain patient confidentiality, complying with data protection and FOIA.Offer flexible working hours, comply with local rules and Trust employment policies.Report equipment failures immediately; ensure criteria for procedure are correct.Adapt technique according to patient condition (e.g., portable, cooperative ability).Assist with training programmes and teaching skills for junior physiologists.Attend compulsory staff training and departmental quality groups; engage in audits and projects.Actively contribute to departmental research, quality improvement and standards set by SCST and RCCP.Possess Immediate Life Support training and perform regular up‑stress echo studies.Maintain 24‑hour ECG tape preparation and analysis as required.Attend mandatory internal or external sessions related to professional development.Workforce Management
Manage own work, staff, departmental services and patient care, liaising with clinicians and directorate managers as needed.Attend relevant study days, in‑house lectures, training afternoons and quality group meetings.Participate in departmental audits.Offer advice, guidance and informed consent to patients, carers and other health professionals regarding cardiology procedures.Ensure accurate recording on Current EPR systems and examination details.Promote good relationships with other directorates and hospitals.Provide independent ECG, exercise ECG, 24‑hour analysis diagnostic results and updated guidelines for all in‑patients, out‑patients and community services.Maintain up‑to‑date certificates for skills and competencies, maintaining numbers as part of quality controls.Financial and Partnership Responsibilities
Monitor, order and check supplies of goods and/or services; communicate with professional responsibility and patients at all times; adhere to patient confidentiality and dignity; provide technical advice in advance diagnostic modalities; communicate with all Trust sections regarding departmental needs.
General Requirements

- Undergraduate degree or equivalent.
