Staff Nurse; ECU North | Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Overview

The post holder will practice within a team of nursing staff and act as a named nurse for a group of patients: assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating their care needs. The post holder will not require direct supervision and will be expected to co-ordinate a ward/area, providing direction to junior staff.

• Document all patient details to the required standard in relation to the admission, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care using the EPR system.
• Deliver a high standard of nursing care.
• Co-ordinate patient discharges, supported, when necessary, by the discharge planning team.
• Manage clinical emergencies as required, ensuring that they are up to date with CPR training.
• Use medical equipment safely and competently and supervise others in its use.
• Record and interpret vital signs, taking required action when they demonstrate deterioration.
• Deal with enquiries/concerns/complaints from patients and visitors in a courteous, timely and relevant manner, informing a senior member of staff when appropriate or referring to a more appropriate member of staff when necessary.
• Liaise with patients’ relatives to keep them fully informed of the patient’s condition and deal appropriately with bereavement, debilitating conditions, or unexpected hospitalisation as needed.
• Liaise appropriately with all members of the multidisciplinary team to promote effective teamwork.
• Act as an advocate for the nursing team, ensuring clinical decisions involve the nursing team appropriately.
• Attend mandatory training when required.
