Job Summary
An exciting opportunity for a permanent Band 6 post at King's College Hospital (KCH) in the Stem Cell Laboratory of the Department of Haematological Medicine. The Laboratory processes over 200 transplants per year, supporting the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.
Main DutiesThe Stem Cell Laboratory operates in a highly regulated environment focussed on product quality. We seek an enthusiastic HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist for career development, who will help run the laboratory and collaborate closely with clinical colleagues to comply with JACIE, the Human Tissue Act and MHRA requirements.
Responsibilities- Operate and maintain GMP‑compliant, sterile working and cleanroom procedures.
- Manage cryopreservation, flow cytometry and cell culture tasks.
- Support the day‑to‑day running of the Stem Cell Laboratory.
- Participate in the department’s transition to 7‑day extended working hours.
- BSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent.
- State Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council.
- IBMS recognised degree, preferably with a portfolio in Stem Cell Transplantation.
- Experience in GMP, sterile working, cleanroom procedures, cryopreservation, flow cytometry and cell culture.
- Knowledge of immunology, stem cell biology and bone‑marrow transplantation for haematological malignancies.
- Documented evidence of continuing professional development.
- Use of haematology analysers.
- Risk‑management theory and practice.
- Technical problem‑solving skills (equipment or quality‑control failures).
- Highly effective communication and motivational skills.
- Quality control and assurance management.
- Strong numerical and statistical abilities.
- Ability to plan, organise and manage own work; adapt, prioritise unpredictable workload and multitask without compromising standards.
- MSc in Biomedical Science (or equivalent).
- Cleanroom working and maintenance experience.
- Cryopreservation experience.
- Knowledge of flow cytometry and cell culture.
- Band: 6
- Pay: £46,419 – £55,046 a year (including high‑cost allowance)
