Responsibilities
The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care with the multidisciplinary team and patients’ families.
As a Band 7 Emergency Department Nurse, you will supervise nursing and support staff on a shift basis, be in charge of the department, and ensure quality and safety, high standards of patient care, and efficient patient flow throughout the department. You will lead a team of nurses and take responsibility for quality and safety initiatives in ED.
About the DepartmentThe emergency department at Barnet Hospital operates as a trauma unit with eight resuscitation bays, including designated cubicles for children and trauma patients. The Urgent Care Division comprises the Emergency Department (ED), Adult Assessment Unit (AAU), Children’s Emergency Department, and Urgent Treatment Centre, all co-located to ED.
You will be supported by 2.5 matrons and a team of three practice facilitators who support training for all staff across the ED. We employ children’s and adult ACPs and actively encourage staff development through ACP training for experienced ED staff.
Training & DevelopmentWe have strong links to a number of educational establishments and run two University Accredited Emergency Nursing courses in the department. All junior nursing staff are placed on a course within the first six to nine months of starting in the Emergency Department.
Our department also has an active research profile, led by our clinical lead.
