Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse on Victoria and Albert ward, you will be caring for cardiovascular patients and work with the MDT to provide our patients with high quality care. We have an enthusiastic group with a great team spirit that shares a common goal. You will be responsible for providing person‑centred nursing care that focuses on offering our patients a good experience whilst with us.

We are supported by an energetic PDN team that supports staff with continuous career development. We have a robust education plan and offer different courses to our staff. Victoria and Albert ward works closely with Victoria and Albert HDU and the Cardiac Recovery Unit.

Main duties of the job

We Need The Successful Candidate To Be Able To:

  • Be a safe and effective practitioner able to provide high quality nursing care to patients and support to relatives. Work with support, within a multi‑disciplinary team to provide continuing care to a specified group of patients from admission to discharge.
  • Supervise and teach junior members of staff and learners as appropriate.
  • Maintain own personal development with support.

Job Description

Have you always wanted a career in cardiothoracic nursing? Our cardiothoracic unit, Victoria & Albert could be the place for you. The ward cares for a variety of patients with complex needs pre and post cardiothoracic surgery as well as providing care for cardiology patients. Kings College Hospital provides tertiary cardiac care and receives cardio‑thoracic patients from across the South East, as part of Kings Health Partners we work closely with partner organisations and work together to form the cardiovascular network transforming cardiovascular services across the region.

We are committed to staff development and education with all staff having access to a wide range of educational and development resources. The practice education team support staff in the clinical area and each new staff member will have an individualised training and development plan, further academic study opportunities are available to staff at Kings with our partner higher education institutions.

Work would be shift based with a mix of days and nights (including weekends). Our shift times are 07:30 to 20:00 for a day shift and 19:30 to 08:00 on night shifts.

What can we offer?

The area is supported by a team of Practice Development Nurses, who offer 1:1 clinical supervision, teaching and study opportunities. We offer in‑house & accredited courses to further your knowledge and skills within this speciality.

Person Specification

Education and

Qualification:

Essential Registered Nurse (RN1) with active NMC registration at time of starting appointment.

Desirable Post registration Cardiac or Critical Care course.

Skills and

Competencies:

  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members.

Knowledge and

Experience:

  • Awareness and understanding of current acute health issues.

Desirable

Experience:

  • Experience in managing acutely ill patients.
  • Clinical expertise relevant to the area.
