SPECIALIST CHILDREN'S PHYSIOTHERAPIST BAND 6

DIf you have completed a minimum of 18 months Band 5 core rotation in neurology and orthopaedics but want to specialise in paediatrics, we may consider a Band 5 developing role.

We are a team of experienced physiotherapists, who are committed to continuous improvement to ensure the best possible support and outcomes for the children and young people known to our service.

Witha strong culture of service and quality improvement this post provides opportunity to develop both clinical skills and develop special areas of interest within a supportive team of therapists. The Clinical caseload will include:

Cerebral palsy

Neurological conditions

Musculoskeletal conditions

Orthopaedics

Children are seen in a variety of settings including clinic, mainstream and resourced schools, nurseries and the child's home.

Working alongside experienced band 7, band 6, band 5 and PTA staff you will be given opportunities to provide:

clinical supervision of a Physiotherapy assistance or band 5

clinical education for students

support the development of clinical pathways

Manage a clinical workload with support of a band 7

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a high standard of paediatric physiotherapy to children and young people (CYP) aged 0-18 who are referred to the service.

This will include physiotherapy assessment, providing therapy interventions, devising therapy programs, setting and reviewing goals, assessing for specialist equipment and orthotics and orthopaedic monitoring.

The post holder can expect to work in a variety of locations within Newham according to the needs of the children; this may include clinics, schools and the child's home. Working with families, carers and teaching staff without direct supervision.

The post holder will be supported by a Band 7 Paediatric Physiotherapist for their informal and monthly formal supervision, their appraisal and development.

We provide a Band 6 rotation in the three main specialties of Paediatrics (Early intervention including neurodevelopment, Orthopedic monitoring and CPIPs and Orthotics/Serial Casting including MSK).

The post holder will also contribute to the development of evidence based practice provision and development of, clinical effectiveness or service developments through the preparation and presentation of a relevant project.

Job responsibilities
  • The provision and development of Paediatric Physiotherapy as part of specialist services for children and young people within the East London Foundation Trust
  • Training and supervision of students and band 4 assistant
  • Support the clinical lead in achieving key performance indicators and maintaining data quality within the services

4. Working within local authority to provide physiotherapy to resourced and mainstream schools

Person Specification Education/ Qualification
  • oDegree in Physiotherapy or equivalent acceptable to HCPC
  • oCurrent State Registration HCPC
  • oDocumented evidence of relevant on-going professional develop
  • oRegistered with CSP
Experience
  • oMinimum 18 months post graduate physiotherapy experience, preferably in a rotational post, to have included experience of paediatrics and or neurology.
  • oAt least last 6 months in of NHS , or equivalent experience
  • oExperience of community
  • oExperience in supervising assistants or participating in student supervision desirable
Knowledge and Skills
  • oAbility to assess, manage & treat patients with complex multi pathologies at a specialist level, having good knowledge and clinical reasoning
  • oAbility to educate patients, carers, physiotherapy staff and other health professionals
  • oAbility to produce clear written documentation of intervention & reports and be computer literate
  • oKnowledge of clinical governance and its application to the physiotherapy service
  • oKnowledge of audit cycle and it's uses
