We’re looking for a Medical Director to help us accomplish our mission to improve and extend lives by learning from the experience of every person with cancer. Are you ready to be the next change maker in cancer care?

Flatiron Health is a healthtech company using data for good to power smarter care for every person with cancer, around the world. Flatiron partners with cancer centers in the US, Europe and Asia to transform patients’ real‑life experiences into real‑world evidence and create a more modern, connected oncology ecosystem. Our multidisciplinary teams include oncologists, data scientists, software engineers, epidemiologists, product experts and more.

Flatiron Health is an independent affiliate of the Roche Group.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide clinical expertise to build and enhance our global tumour‑specific real‑world data products using Electronic Health Record data and including information based on UK oncology clinical practice.
  • Inform key data processing decisions such as assessing what types of data elements are routinely captured in structured vs. unstructured data to inform how Flatiron will process health records into data products.
  • Support the building of data processing policies and procedures, including developing rules for abstractors (clinical professionals who extract complex unstructured clinical data from electronic medical records assisted by Flatiron’s proprietary software).
  • Provide clinical context and support to our internal machine‑learning curation processes.
  • Have involvement and oversight in quality assurance processes to ensure the clinical credibility of our data products.
  • Support the engagement of hospital clinicians and employees to understand how RWD (real‑world data) can help support clinical and research needs.
  • Work closely with data scientists to provide clinical and methodological support to external users of Flatiron Health’s oncology real‑world databases.
  • Conduct RWD research with internal & external partners.
  • Engage and support clients and end‑users with Flatiron’s data products, crafting fit‑for‑use solutions using RWE.
  • Act as a medical and scientific voice for Flatiron at national and international conferences.
  • Collaborate with a cross‑functional team across four countries where Flatiron has offices, including engineering, data science, business development, data privacy experts, and other clinical professionals.
  • Work with global clinical scientific leadership to ensure knowledge generated/learned takes UK clinical nuances into account and is embedded into our global oncology real‑world databases (e.g. approaches to clinical variable development and research methods).
Who You Are
  • You have direct and recent clinical experience with an oncology specialty (e.g. medical oncology, clinical oncology, surgical oncology).
  • You have completed the relevant post‑graduate exams (or equivalent) (e.g. Certificate in Medical Oncology, FRCR, FRCS).
  • You have a strong understanding of NHS cancer diagnostic and treatment pathways.
  • You are curious and stay up to date on the latest advances in oncology drug development through reading and conference attendance.
  • You have worked in a research environment either as a principal investigator or member of a research team in an academic or industry context.
  • You have published and presented oncology research.
  • You have interest and experience with creating databases for research.
  • You have experience with health records and electronic oncology clinical systems.
  • You have experience with how clinical data is represented across the UK (e.g. understanding of ICD codes, cancer registry data).
  • You are excited about working in a passionate, fast‑paced, technology‑driven culture.
  • You can collaborate and easily explain scientific terms to a non‑medical, highly sophisticated audience; strong communication skills.
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and a willingness to teach and learn.
  • You are fluent in English.
Optional
  • You have experience working in Industry (e.g. Health Technology, Pharmaceutical).
  • You have machine‑learning experience in RWD and/or healthcare.
  • You have proven experience in one or more methodological research areas relevant to oncology (e.g. RWE, outcomes research, health services research, clinical trials).
