This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate Psychological Therapist or Family Therapist with experience of supporting young people in Mental health Crisis and their families in the community to be part of the new CAMHS Intensive Community Crisis Service, developing across East London.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide high quality systemic assessments, evidence based interventions and consultation to client systems including children young people their families, carers and professional networks. As a psychological therapy resource to the team, they will work collaboratively with CYP, families and multi-disciplinary colleagues to formulate effective care plans of intensive community support and interventions for CYP.

Job responsibilities

Provide specialist systemic assessment and interventions toCYP and their families with significant and complex problems in order to formulate and implement plans for the treatment and management of a child or adolescents mental health problems based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and employing research based evidence. This may include consideration of some of the following issues: risk, parenting, family breakdown, child protection, sexual abuse, serious mental illness in client or parent, childcare, family rehabilitation, and civil or criminal court proceedings.

This may include provisions of professional reports to other agencies including court where appropriate.

Provide specialist treatment to both individual CYP and families, drawing on a range of models to meet individual needs and taking into account complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes when evaluating treatment options.

Provide specialist consultation to children, young people and their families

Provide consultation, advice and guidance to other professionals working with families both within the service and in partner agencies. This will include liaison and working with professional networks involved with complex, emotive and sometimes conflictual issues such as those involving child protection, deliberate self-harm, violence, trauma and suicide risk.

Undertake risk assessment and risk management strategies

They will work closely with the Team Manager for ICCS and relevant colleagues to develop specialist training, teaching and consultation in order to enhance systemic thinking and practice across the team and for the multi-agency professionals involved. They will support with the line management and clinical supervision of staff within EL Crisis Services as required, in line with People & Culture policies.

They will contribute to wide team functions such as being part of service rotas including duty and being involved in service development work such as audits, quality improvement, and research and service evaluation.

Person Specification Education/ Qualification/ Training
  • UKCP Registration
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Masters Level qualification in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy (or established equivalence according to AFT criteria) and post-graduate qualification in a relevant field of mental health or social welfare and demonstrable practice. With UKCP Registration or equivalent
  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology, as accredited by the BPS/HCPC
  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Skills in the use of specialist systemic assessment and treatment of individuals, couples, family systems and groups
  • A specialist level of clinical skill
  • Skills in applying systemic theory to work with individuals, couples, family systems, groups and organisations
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as required by UKCP/AFT guidelines.
  • Knowledge of and skill in using a wide variety of systemic theories and interventions and the ability to use these appropriately in relation to client need and work setting.
  • Sufficient knowledge of other modalities to engage appropriately with colleagues and their work with clients.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development.
  • Knowledge of adapting therapies for adolescents and presentations, including working with young people on the Autistic Spectrum
  • Knowledge of current developments in the assessment and treatment of a range and other related issuesf serious mental illnesses, including psychotic disorder, obsessive/compulsive disorder, schizo-affective disorder and
