Job Overview
The Clinical Neurophysiology Department provides a responsive service of Neurophysiological studies for adults and children of all ages as out-patients, as well as an active in-patient service which includes referrals from the adult, liver, paediatrics, neonatal, trauma and neuro-intensive care units. Due to the locations of these team this would include working off-site at the various associated hospitals and institutions. This is a fixed term role until March 2027.
Jobresponsibilities
- Provide a comprehensive range of clinical neurophysiological investigations, including EEG (ambulant/non-ambulant/portable);
Telemetry, Nerve Conduction studies;
Evoked Potentials; intra-operative monitoring and EEG telemetry, both routinely and as part of research programmes, as directed by the Senior Physiologist and Clinical Director. - Work as part of a team for the day-to-day running of the department and undertake out-of-hours emergency in-patient work as part of the on-call rota (including weekends and Bank holidays).
- Undertake a wide range of standard clinical neurophysiological investigations, independently, with some nonstandard and complex investigations. Bedside recording in different parts of the hospital and off-site is included. In-service training is provided where appropriate.
- Supervision of lower grades in normal circumstances.
- Ensure accurate logging and filing of data from neurophysiological investigations and maintain data availability and integrity in line with regulations (Data Protection Act).
- Keep up to date with findings in clinical neurophysiology and learn new techniques. Teaching in techniques new to the post-holder will be provided. Attendance at departmental meetings and study events is encouraged.
- To undertake the full range of Evoked Potentials (Visual, Brainstem and Somatosensory) with detailed knowledge of these pathways.
- Participate in technician-led Nerve Conduction clinics and teach/assist in departmental teaching for technicians, scientific, nursing and medical staff and visitors; assist in preparing teaching or research materials.

Essential
- BSc in Clinical Physiology - Neuro or equivalent degree
- ECNE Part I and/or B - willing to undertake further study
- Scientific Training Programme (UK) Qualifications
Desirable
- MSc in Neurophysiology or equivalent
Knowledge and experience
- Broad experience in clinical EEG with significant post-qualification experience, including at least one non-standard procedure
- Good general knowledge of clinical neurophysiology
- Experience with clinical EPS, NCS and/or video/EEG telemetry
- Previous NHS experience in Neurophysiology
Desirable
- Experience working off-site with minimal/remote supervision
Skills & competencies
- Able to communicate well with and relate to patients, including children
- Basic computer (keyboard) skills
- Good knowledge and fluency in English written and verbal communication
- Adaptable, forward thinking, able to work well in a team and autonomously
