Job Overview

The post holder will be based within the pharmacy department at Moorfields City Road site and gain experience in the development and delivery of Pharmacy services within high-cost therapies, outpatients and day‑care settings.

The main duties of the job include:

  • Assisting in the provision of a safe and efficient clinical pharmacy service in the Pharmacy dispensaries, including dispensing of High‑Cost Therapies and Homecare, working in a patient‑facing area as part of the dispensary clinical pharmacy team.
  • Working in conjunction with Lead Pharmacy Technicians for High‑Cost Therapies and Clinical Services and Senior Pharmacy Technicians to manage and coordinate workflow in the dispensaries, monitoring the quality of service and promoting the implementation of Trust initiatives for out‑patients and day‑case services.
Responsibilities
  • Receive prescriptions from patients or day‑case wards for dispensing.
  • After training and assessment, assemble medicines for individual outpatients, day‑cases and in‑patients.
  • Dispense and check medications, providing appropriate instructions to patients after training and assessment.
  • Support stock control within the dispensaries, including ordering, receiving, distribution, and stock rotation.
  • Process prescription and over‑the‑counter payments where applicable.
  • Assist in ward stock top‑ups after training.
  • Manage stock control for ancillary stock (e.g., bottles, bags, labels) ensuring suitable quantities.
  • Ensure all relevant Patient Information Leaflets (PILs) and supplementary patient leaflets or instruction sheets are photocopied and available.
  • Maintain accurate stock control of medicines in the Pharmacy dispensaries and within clinical areas.
  • Maintain clean and tidy dispensing facilities and safe systems of work, including expiry‑date checking and correct disposal of medications.
  • Complete mandatory training.
  • File prescriptions on a daily basis.
  • Answer telephone calls and deal with queries, liaising with other Pharmacy staff both at City Road and at Network sites.
  • Handle medicines returned from wards/departments and patients, create appropriate computer records, and dispose of unwanted/expired stock in line with Trust policies and national guidance.
  • Assist Lead and Senior Pharmacy Technicians in receipt of medicinal stock from pharmaceutical wholesalers.
  • Promptly match delivery notes, orders, and invoices.
  • Arrange deliveries of medicinal stock to Moorfields Network sites as necessary.
  • Arrange home deliveries of medicines supplied on prescription to patients either by post or same‑day courier as necessary.

Essential Criteria – Education /

Qualification:

  • Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent including Maths & English.
  • BTEC or NVQ level 2 in pharmaceutical services or equivalent.
