The post holder will ensure high levels of patient and clinician satisfaction by being an accessible, patient focused and knowledgeable point of contact. The job summary is described below:

Working closely with the Admin manager, the Pathway Coordinator will be a key contact for the service for all patient related and administrative matters.

Provide secretarial support to upper GI and colorectal services.

To monitor and validate patients throughout their pathway, from point of entry, escalating issues promptly to ensure compliance with waiting time standards.

Support the coordination of national and local audits through effective data collection.

We are seeking to appoint a Pathway Coordinator to join the administrative team in St Marks Hospital surgery department at Central Middlesex Hospital. Specific responsibility will be to provide support across the colorectal service.

The successful candidates will be experienced medical secretaries capable of demonstrating advanced communication and organisational skills. They must be able to use their own initiative, show problem‑solving skills, excellent attention to detail and a passion for patient care.

In line with the Trust's objective of a transition from medical secretary to Patient Pathway Co‑ordinators (PCC), any necessary training will be given to expand the role to cover PPC duties. This will be fully explained at interview.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the Admin Manager to ensure all administrative processes are delivered to a high professional standard – including clinic letters and clinic outcomes.
  • Under the instruction of the Admin Manager, manage clinic templates and take ownership of clinic capacity planning to ensure that clinics are booked to capacity, but appropriately for the number of doctors in clinic.
  • Respond to the need to re‑prioritise patients in clinic to meet clinical urgency and make ad‑hoc urgent appointment requests as required.
  • Track patient pathway points when re‑booking patients to ensure they are seen both within waiting time targets and as necessary for clinical urgency, escalating to the Admin Manager if this is not possible.
  • Track clinic outcomes to ensure that all requested tests are booked within an acceptable timeframe and re‑book out‑patients appointments as required.
  • Track when results are available and liaise with the relevant consultant to determine whether follow‑up in clinic is required.
