Advanced Occupational Therapist – Intensive Care Unit; ICU

If you are an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 6 or Band 7 Occupational therapist with relevant experience. You will be a valued member of the integrated OT/PT therapy respiratory team as well as working closely with specialist SLTs and Dietitians.

We are looking for a candidate with excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to facilitate change and development and a flexible approach are essential. Clinical knowledge and experience working with critical care and respiratory patient cohorts is essential.

The successful candidate will be expected to have excellent team working skills and experience of service development in this area is desirable.

The post can be offered as a development opportunity to start as a Band 6 Occupational Therapist with progression to Band 7 upon completion of set competencies .This will be achieved through the completion of key core competencies by the end of 12 month period and you will be supported to gain in depth knowledge /experience in complex ICU Case management .The

ideal candidate will have ability to work autonomously and as part of the wider MDT. This development opportunity will include an individualised competency frame work supporting the successful candidate to ensure they have the necessary skills and experience to undertake the role of the Advanced Occupational Therapist.

The post holder will be:

Delivering advanced Occupational Therapy intervention for our 21 bedded general Critical Care Unit and 22 bedded respiratory ward.

Taking a lead role in advanced cognitive/functional assessment and treatment of patients, who frequently have complex, acute and/or chronic conditions. This may include psychosocial /emotional and cognitive issues.

Responsible for participation in service reviews, audits and implementation of Evidence based therapy practice/standards alongside Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist, Highly Specialist Speech and Language therapist and Dietitian.

Providing formal supervision to Band 5/6 Occupational therapists and/or therapy assistants/students and informal support to band 5/6 physiotherapists

• BSc in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.
• Registration with HCPC
• Undertaken post graduate study equivalent to MSc level study relevant to the area of practice/in depth post graduate training relevant to area of practice
• Field work Educator qualification.
• Member ship of special interest group
• Membership of RCOT

• Evidence of advanced clinical reasoning skills required to deal with complex conditions and plan OT treatment independently.
