- The post holder will be expected to be a senior member of the multidisciplinary Nuclear Medicine team.
- The post holder will act as a lead for the training and education of students and new staff.
- The post holder will act as a deputy for the Operational Superintendent at Denmark Hill
- The post holder is required to be part of a rota for management of the daily clinical workload of the department and provide technical advice.
- The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of high quality diagnostic images for all Nuclear Medicine investigations (including PET-CT).
Main Duties and Responsibilities
This summary outlines the key responsibilities expected at the Band 6 grade, which involve routine and non-routine procedures.
Clinical Technical Duties:- Perform all diagnostic Nuclear Medicine procedures, including SPECT-CT, PET-CT, and DEXA, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and yourself in line with Health & Safety protocols.
- Administer intravenous radiopharmaceuticals and drugs for diagnostic purposes, adhering to applicable legislation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure that junior staff and students comply with SOPs, protocols, and guidelines, taking responsibility for their adherence and performance.
- Respond to scheduling requests from patients and referrers, ensuring that all nuclear medicine studies align with departmental protocols.
- Assess and evaluate patient and referrer needs, collaborating with clinicians to tailor procedures and meet individual patient requirements.
- Obtain patient consent, confirm patient identification, and gather all relevant clinical details before imaging, in compliance with Trust policies and professional regulations.
- Collaborate with clinical scientists to ensure the timely processing and readiness of diagnostic images.
- Maintain safe working practices when handling radioactive materials, blood samples, and hazardous waste, adhering to government legislation and departmental policies

Job responsibilitiesRadiopharmacology and Scientific Laboratory:
- Safely unpack and assay radiopharmaceuticals in compliance with safety protocols.
- Accurately prepare, dispense, and administer diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals and medications as prescribed by legislation and SOPs, maintaining aseptic techniques.
- Perform and analyse in-vitro laboratory procedures, ensuring all measurements are accurate and preparing results for reporting.
Patient Management and Care:
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care while upholding confidentiality and respect, in line with departmental and Trust policies.
- Take responsibility for preparing patients for imaging studies, ensuring that all procedures are thoroughly explained in a clear, understandable manner (with an interpreter if necessary). Confirm patient identification, obtain consent, and ensure all relevant details are documented.
