Emergency Department Clerical Officer

* As we run a 24 hr service 365 days per year, each staff member is expected to work days, nights, weekends and bank holidays including Easter and Christmas. All shifts are 11.5 hours; you would generally do 2 or 3 shifts per week, each shift 7am‑7pm or 7pm‑7am.*

Main Duties
  • Receive A&E patients on the computerised recording system.
  • Produce and supply all necessary paperwork to allow processing of patients through the A&E department.
  • Photocopy notes ready for patient transfer to a ward.
  • Accurately scan A&E notes and results when required.
  • Retrieve old A&E cards as needed.
  • Produce discharge letters singly or in batch, sent to GPs by mail or electronically.
  • Handle telephone enquiries regarding patients in A&E and redirect calls to the correct person.
  • Make clinic appointments for patients who need to attend fracture or other speciality clinics.
  • Use Tel tracking when Flow Co is not available (login required).
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Enter patients into the Emis system for UTC and 111 appointments and initialise patients on Adastra for 111 appointments.
  • Use the PAS computer system and other computerised systems in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
