We are seeking an efficient, flexible, and motivated Band 7 Biomedical Scientist (Clinical Biochemistry) interested in automated solutions/track systems to join the Blood Sciences laboratory team at Charing Cross Hospital. The laboratory at Charing Cross is a Hub lab for North West London pathology where all of the GP work in the area and referral tests from spoke sites are processed.

The post holder will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality, patient-focused service for Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and work collaboratively across the North West London Pathology network. As a Band 7 Biomedical Scientist, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and supervision of a team of Biomedical Scientists and Associate Practitioners. You will ensure the delivery of an effective, efficient, and high-quality laboratory service, supporting excellent patient care and appropriate resource management.

The laboratory holds IBMS training approval for both Registration and Specialist Portfolios in Blood Sciences. Experience in training staff for IBMS registration and possession of a specialist qualification in Clinical Biochemistry are highly desirable.

  • Manage designated sections of diagnostic and support services, ensuring effective organisation, staffing, and workflow
  • Ensure all procedures, protocols, and quality standards are followed at all times
  • Supervise, direct, and support staff within allocated sections
  • Provide teaching, training, and professional development for staff, including those undertaking IBMS Registration and Specialist Portfolios
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Clinical Biochemistry and current diagnostic laboratory practices
  • Contribute to service continuity across other sections when required, particularly in the absence of senior staff
  • The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art analytical platforms, including Abbott Alinity CI Chemistry and Immuno-Chemistry analysers, Tosoh G11 and Osmo Pro.

The service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and Band 7 staff participate in core, late, and weekend day shift rotas.
