Highly Specialist Neurological Occupational Therapist – Community
Join to apply for the Highly Specialist Neurological Occupational Therapist – Community role at Barts Health NHS Trust.
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist with a strong interest and experience in neurology, and a passion for community service provision, to join the Tower Hamlets Community Neuro Team (THCNT). Based at Mile End Hospital, you will be part of a large, friendly and highly successful multidisciplinary team delivering neurorehabilitation to patients in their own homes, or on-site in the gym or clinic.
The team comprises Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Clinical Psychologists, a Neuro Navigator and Rehabilitation Support Workers, all working collaboratively to provide high‑quality, patient‑centred care.
In this role you will be responsible for assessing, treating and clinically managing complex patients with a wide range of neurological conditions, some of which may be life‑limiting, and for developing tailored treatment programmes for your caseload. The caseload includes individuals requiring both rehabilitation and long‑term disability management for conditions such as acquired brain injuries, Parkinson’s disease and Motor Neurone Disease.
The ideal candidate will bring a genuine passion for community working and previous experience in neurology, along with excellent communication skills, initiative, enthusiasm and the ability to work both autonomously and as part of the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Provide highly specialist assessment, treatment and clinical management of clients with neurological conditions, determining clinical diagnosis, functional deficits and developing occupational therapy treatment programmes.
- Be dynamic in developing efficient and effective occupational therapy working practices to assist in producing a fully effective multidisciplinary team approach.
- Work with the Allied Health Professional Lead to develop the service to best meet changing health and social care agendas.
- Be responsible for the clinical development and operational management of a team of Occupational Therapists within the Tower Hamlets Community Neuro Team (THCNT).
- Work with multidisciplinary colleagues to deputise to the Allied Health Professional Lead as required.
- Collaborate with the acute Neurological Occupational Therapy service and Community Health Services to provide integrated care for clients with a neurological diagnosis within Tower Hamlets.
