We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our team in London. This role involves providing clinical cover for general and cardio thoracic critical care units, as well as input across various acute hospital wards, including general and specialist medicine, general surgery, and front door services. The successful candidate will have a strong background in the adult acute setting and possess highly specialist skills in managing dysphagia and communication impairments.
Responsibilities:
As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will autonomously manage a caseload, providing expert assessment and intervention for patients with dysphagia and communication impairments. You will work across general and cardio thoracic critical care units, as well as acute hospital wards, delivering high-quality care and support.
Your role will involve collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, contributing to patient care plans, and ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients.
Experience with patients who have tracheostomies and are ventilator dependent is essential, and skills in FEES are desirable.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent
- HCPC registration
- Extensive experience in the adult acute setting
- Highly specialist skills in the management of dysphagia and communication impairments
- Experience with patients who have tracheostomies and are ventilator dependent
- Skills in Fiber optic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) are desirable
- Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
