A fantastic opportunity to build and manage relationships with government and wider political stakeholders to support and further the advocacy efforts of the British Chambers of Commerce.

Reporting to: Head of Public Affairs
Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, full-time.
Location: BCC office in St James’s Park, London, with an option to work from home up to 2 days a week.

Key Responsibilities- Supporting delivery of BCC’s advocacy strategy: Develop and execute public affairs programmes to promote key campaign and advocacy priorities across Government and Parliament.
- Public affairs strategy and monitoring: Lead responsibility for the BCC’s engagement with Parliamentarians, including opposition parties. Build the organisation's parliamentary profile and reputation through monitoring key Bills, Parliamentary Questions and debates, producing parliamentary briefings, supporting select committee appearances and tracking issues of strategic importance. Lead on the production of the BCC’s Quarterly newsletter for political stakeholders. Manage relationship with the BCC’s third-party monitoring provider and promote the use of the service internally.
- Stakeholder engagement: Deliver targeted engagement programmes for senior BCC spokespeople with key stakeholders in Government, Parliament and with all major national political parties. Represent the BCC at meetings with government departments and other associated regulatory bodies. Maintain a network of key contacts across Whitehall and Westminster.
- Briefing SLT and DG: Brief and accompany senior spokespeople, including the Director General, to stakeholder meetings
- Chamber network advocacy and engagement: Update the Chamber of Commerce network on key Westminster and Whitehall developments; produce briefings and internal updates for the Network. Support requests from Chambers to raise policy issues with government and Whitehall and facilitate regional ministerial and senior official meetings and events
- Project management – events and public affairs: Deliver keynote speaker and public events programme for BCC, including Global Annual conference and other key events. Support the organisation of BCC's Party Conference programme, including meetings, events and receptions. Support the commercial team with Business Council and with the delivery of public affairs elements of other partnerships.
- Prior experience working in public affairs, parliament or politics
- Deep understanding of how government and parliamentary processes work
- Excellent written and communications skills
- Strong stakeholder management abilities and experience influencing and development relationships with senior stakeholders
- Can do attitude and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Team player
- Knowledge and understanding of business-related policy and the business environment
- Degree in politics or a related field
- A strong political network
- Knowledge of media and communications.
- Knowledge of using CRM systems.
