Position: Inquiries & Decision Officer (Contract, Temporary)
Good Afternoon,

I am currently representing Islington Council, who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 3-6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate at a rate which is negotiable dependent upon experience

We are looking for a Inquiries & Decision Officer this role will be:
Hybrid 1 day Office based N1 1XR

The right candidate will:

* Responsibility for the assessment, enquiries and main duty decisions (singles and families) with particular reference to assisting people under the relevant homelessness legislation and informing them of the Council’s decision in relation to their application.

* To specifically assist with pre-existing applications to clear the homeless decisions backlog.

* To operate to the highest professional customer care standards for the delivery of the homelessness service.

* Responsibility in delivering a co-ordinated approach to inquiries and decisions for families and vulnerable persons through developing and maintaining effective working relationships with other Council teams (within Housing Needs and Strategy), services and external agencies

* To undertake periodic home visits as required as part of the enquiries process when investigating main duty applications. To undertake other duties commensurate to the grade of the post.

We require the following:

* Experience of conducting homeless assessments and reaching decisions on complex homeless cases, in accordance with the homeless legislation, case law, code of guidance and council policies and practice

* Knowledge of the relevant legislation relating to homelessness and housing need, with particular reference to the Housing Act, Homelessness Code of Guidance, Homeless Reduction Act, Domestic Abuse Act, Public Sector Quality Duty including the skills and ability to apply the legislation within the context of homelessness

* Advanced written communication skills required to draft responses, reports / briefings for a wide range of audiences including members and senior officers, stakeholders and customers
