Senior Credit Rating Specialist - CMBS background

An established buy-side financial institution is seeking an experienced Senior Credit Rating Specialist to join their Capital Management and Investments team. This role involves driving the development and validation of internal credit rating methodologies, credit risk and ratings of illiquid assets, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and working closely with key stakeholders across the business. We are ideally looking for a candidate from a Rating Agency or banking background with CMBS knowledge.

This role will see the candidate take charge or a REITS and Commercial Real Estate portfolio so must be comfortable to have a wider portfolio than previously covered.

• The role is balanced between credit risk analysis, portfolio management oversight, credit ratings and credit risk modelling.
• Review internal credit rating methodologies for new asset classes.
• Conduct internal validation activities as part of the Credit Ratings Validation Framework.
• Produce reports and papers for Credit Committee approvals, ensuring all methodologies and processes are thoroughly documented.
• Perform regular reviews of credit rating methodologies and manage external validation processes when necessary.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to drive credit risk strategies.

• Develop and document methodologies for new internal credit rating frameworks.
• Create models to implement these methodologies and oversee asset checks.
• Provide comprehensive analysis and validation of fund manager credit ratings.
• Prepare reports for submission to the Credit Committee.
• Manage the external validation process, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards.

• Experience with in a credit rating agency or bank.
• Strong understanding of credit rating methodologies, particularly for assets commonly held by UK annuity writers.
• Proven ability to develop or review internal credit rating frameworks.
• Solid experience preparing detailed reports for senior committees and managing stakeholder relationships.
• Rating Agency background in the CMBS structured finance teams.
• Experience working with risk frameworks and performing risk identification activities.
• A proactive and adaptable approach, with strong collaboration and communication skills.
