The Role
As Senior Risk & Compliance Manager, you’ll operate as the lead Risk & Compliance authority for the UK and Europe – holding key FCA responsibilities (SMF
16 & SMF
17) and ensuring our international operations meet the highest regulatory standards. You may also act as a Director for relevant UK and European entities, bringing strong governance, sound judgement and accountability to our local operations. You’ll provide trusted guidance across multiple jurisdictions, support affiliate activity, and influence how we grow safely and responsibly in new and existing markets.
You’ll also play an influential role in our London office, working closely with Heads of function, portfolio managers and investment teams to ensure compliance is embedded into day‑to‑day decision‑making and strategic discussions.
You’ll work across UK, EU and affiliate models, gaining rare breadth and variety while enjoying genuine autonomy as the senior compliance voice on the ground.
You’ll have the backing of our Sydney Risk team and help embed our group frameworks in a UK/EU context, contribute to Board‑level reporting, and play a central role in the ongoing development of our international operations.
What You’ll Do- Lead compliance oversight across the UK & Europe as the senior compliance representative on the ground.

16 (Compliance Oversight) and SMF
17 (MLRO) from day one, maintaining constructive, professional engagement with the FCA. - Prepare clear, high‑quality Board and committee reporting, providing insight, recommendations and steady judgement – giving you real influence on strategic decisions and risk posture. Support cross‑border activity including Sweden, Madrid and affiliate relationships such as Ardea and Fulcrum, including providing compliance guidance and oversight where needed across key affiliate entities.
- Localise and embed Challenger’s Risk & Compliance frameworks in a small, high‑performing satellite office.
- Where required, act as a Director for specific UK/EU entities, ensuring effective governance and alignment with regulatory expectations.
You’ll be an experienced Risk & Compliance professional with a background in investment management, wealth management or funds management. Given the nature of the role, you’ll need strong working knowledge of UK regulation and FCA expectations, with the ability to hold SMF
16 & SMF
17 immediately.
- Confidence working with regulators – able to handle regulatory discussions clearly, professionally and without escalation.
- Experience preparing Board‑level papers, with the ability to communicate complex issues in a straightforward, practical way.
- Comfort operating independently day‑to‑day, with remote support from Sydney.
- A calm, practical and collaborative approach, with good judgement and an ability to balance regulatory needs with business realities.
