Joining our team at Sainsbury's as a Finance Manager for Argos Retail Costs presents a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in managing and optimising the total cost base for our Argos retail operations. What you’ll do

As the Finance Manager for Argos Retail Costs, you will play a crucial role in managing and optimising the total Argos Retail cost base, encompassing store labour, non-labour costs, and shrink. Acting as the key Finance Business Partner to the Retail Leadership team, you will provide valuable insights, analysis, and commentary that influence decision-making and challenge performance. Your responsibilities will include leading forecasting, budgeting, and period close processes, analysing trends and risks to drive actionable solutions that enhance profitability, and ensuring strong financial governance through robust investment appraisals.

Additionally, you will be instrumental in developing and motivating a high-performing team, fostering a culture of challenge, ownership, and continuous improvement to achieve sustained improvement in Store Operating Profit and EBIT.

Who you are

You are a professionally qualified accountant with a proven track record of providing inspirational leadership, or desire to do so, and driving improved financial performance through insightful analysis and sound judgement. Your strong commercial acumen allows you to partner effectively with senior stakeholders, influence decision-making, and challenge the status quo to deliver sustained improvements in Store Operating Profit and EBIT. With your exceptional communication skills, analytical capability, and commitment to accuracy, you excel in translating complex data into actionable insights and driving continuous improvement in financial governance and cost control to maximise value for the business.

  • Professionally qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or ACA)
  • Demonstrated people leadership capability, including line management of a small team or desire to line manage and evidence of developing team capability and performance
  • Demonstrable business partnering experience, as well as effective stakeholder influence and communication, evidenced by the ability to present, explain and challenge financial and non‑financial performance information with senior stakeholders
  • Proven delivery of improved financial outcomes, using commercial insight, financial analysis and sound judgement to inform decision‑making and challenge assumptions
