In the UK, AXA XL has both a UK regulated insurance company (AXICL UK) and Lloyd’s operations, the combination of being able to issue Lloyd’s and AXICL UK paper in the UK as well as XLICSE paper in the EU ensures that AXA XL is well positioned to work with clients and brokers to offer solutions for business. AXA XL underwrites a wide variety of commercial insurance products globally, with many speciality lines particularly written in the UK via our Lloyds syndicate.

The role is within the Risk Management function, in the Actuarial Risk Centre of Excellence. This is a group of actuaries and other technical professionals striving to support the business in risk based decision making.

The key purpose of the role is to support the Head of Capital Modelling – UK in ensuring that the risk profile of UK entities are adequately modelled and communicated. In particular this includes supporting engagement with Lloyd’s on capital issues in respect of AXA XL’s syndicates such as the annual Solvency Capital Requirement (SCR) assessment process. This role would suit someone with a keen interest in mathematical modelling and a desire to pursue an actuarial career path.

What you’ll be doing What will your essential responsibilities include?
  • Support fulfilment of Lloyd’s Capital Modelling requirements, in particular annual SCR assessment and reassessment process through
    • Working with the UK Capital team to grow your knowledge of the insurance environment, in particular within Lloyd’s while supporting UK Capital Modelling and required reporting
    • Ensuring parameterisation processes are completed in time for model use and in line with specified standards
    • Reviewing model code and adjust where necessary
    • Performance of testing on model outputs to ensure appropriateness of model calibration
    • Reviewing model inputs and outputs and justify their appropriateness for the entity’s exposure
    • Ensuring governance processes are appropriately followed and data quality standards are met
    • Production and maintenance of Model documentation to a sufficient standard to meet regulatory and professional demands in respect of any activity carried out
  • Support the assessment of capital for AXA XL Insurance Company UK, developing and applying methodologies to extract and adjust relevant distributions from the AXA XL Divisional capital model
  • Support the engagement with users of internal model information to support understanding of underlying volatility and support risk based decisions
  • Respond to queries or ad hoc investigations concerning the capital or underlying risk position of the UK entities.

You will report to the Head of Capital Modelling - UK.

  • SQL, R and Python coding skills beneficial
