Financial Manager, Accounting & Finance
A growing design and build and commercial fit-out business, delivering high-quality refurbishment and fit-out projects across London. Working closely with a partner company, we’re now bringing finance in-house for the first time to strengthen control, improve reporting, and build smarter internal processes.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands‑on, improving the way things run, and becoming the go‑to finance person across the business.
The OpportunityWe’re hiring an experienced Finance Manager / Accounts Manager to take ownership of the day‑to‑day finance function and support accurate, timely month‑end close.
This is a highly operational role, ideal for someone with experience within a finance role within the construction / design and build / fit out sector. Must have worked with Quick Books and a solid understanding of CIS, VAT, payroll, expenses, and project cost allocation.
There is also real scope to modernise processes, improve reporting, and explore automation / AI tools to reduce manual admin.
Key Responsibilities Month‑End & Reporting- Manage and close the month‑end process accurately and on time
- Support basic reporting and visibility across project performance
- Maintain control across multiple cost codes and project allocations
- Manage supplier invoices and approval processes
- Track and allocate costs across projects and cost centres
- Manage staff expenses and correct allocation (job/time splits)
- Produce, manage, and issue client invoices
- Track payments and chase overdue invoices
- Improve debtor control and accuracy of records
- Prepare and submit VAT returns
- Ensure compliance with financial processes and deadlines
- Support payroll processes and ensure timely completion
- Take ownership of CIS administration including:
- Subcontractor setup and verification
- CIS deductions and filings
- Maintaining labour and site records
- Own and maintain the finance function within Quick Books
- Improve processes to reduce errors and manual work
- Identify workflow improvements (including automation / AI opportunities)
- Implement better tracking of projects, time splits, and cost codes
Experience in finance/accounts within construction, fit out, or design & build.
Strong working knowledge of:
- Month‑end close
- VAT returns
- Payroll and expenses
- Job/project cost allocations
- Sales ledger, invoicing and credit control
- CIS administration (subcontractors, UTR checks, deductions, filings)
- Comfortable working in a fast‑moving SME environment
- Proactive, organised, and confident taking ownership
- A hands‑on finance professional who enjoys improving how things run
- Detail‑focused, structured and able to manage multiple priorities
- Strong communicator, comfortable liaising with suppliers, site teams and chasing payments
- Interested in using automation/tools to streamline finance admin
- Ambitious and keen to grow with a business
