Principal Investment Specialist - Private Debt – London
Mercer is pleased to present an exciting opportunity to join our growing Private Debt team within our Alternatives business. In this position you will have the opportunity to work as part of a global team, serving Mercer’s discretionary and advisory institutional client base. The role involves leading investment due diligence and research, while actively contributing to client service and business development efforts through the creation and delivery of high-quality analysis and intellectual capital.
Candidates should have five to ten plus years of experience within Alternative Investments, excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to function well in a team-based environment.
- Reporting to the Head of European Private Debt, lead the end-to-end due diligence process for underwriting primary and co-investment strategies.
- Proactively source and evaluate new investment opportunities across the private debt universe by cultivating trusted industry relationships, engaging with prospective managers, attending relevant events, and conducting both qualitative and quantitative analysis.
- Support clients and investment consultants in managing portfolios of private investments.
- Fund selection, performance monitoring, relationship management with investment partners, periodic portfolio reviews, and on-site meetings with key managers.
- Prepare both standard and bespoke reports and presentations to ensure clear communication and transparency with the Investment Committee, internal stakeholders, clients, and external partners.
- Maintain and enhance the prospective manager database.
- Solid investment research experience within the private markets.
- Evidence of intelligent investment decisions and their results.
- Strong, proven written and oral communication skills.
- Solid interpersonal and organisation skills.
- A collegial, team-oriented, constructive, “can do” attitude.
- Unquestioned honesty, integrity, and transparency.
- Well versed in financial applications (e.g., Excel, Bloomberg) and MS Office applications.
- An undergraduate degree from a leading institution.
- A wealth of relevant investment experience at a pension fund, endowment, foundation, consulting firm, or fund of funds is greatly preferred.
- CFA, or CAIA designation.
