Momentum Investment Solutions & Consulting (MISC) is the investment advisory and solutions team responsible for UK Institutional clients within Momentum Global Investment Management (MGIM), a UK asset manager. MISC provides advisory, Outsourced CIO (OCIO) and Fiduciary Management (FM) services to DB pension schemes and charities leveraging the full resources of MGIM (70 UK staff, c £6.5bn AUM, c £5bn AUA).

MGIM is part of Momentum Investments (c £40bn AUM), the asset management arm of Momentum Group, a large South African based insurer (JSE: MTM). As well as Institutional clients, MGIM manages retail and global financial institutional clients in the UK.

About the Role

Due to recent growth in our client base and an expanded product range, MISC are looking for a graduate Analyst who is highly numerate and detail-oriented, with a strong interest in financial markets and a willingness to get involved across different types of work.

You will play a key role in providing analytical support to investment consultants and senior investment analysts in delivery of client work. If successful, you will be fully supported in pursuing the CFA qualification as part of your professional development.

MISC is a highly experienced investment consulting team that provides direct advice to large institutional clients and designs/implements investment mandates. We have pension and charity clients. Staff have backgrounds across Consulting, Actuarial and Asset Management. The team have innovated or been early to market with multiple techniques, particularly in the pension sector. We design open architecture, multi-asset mandates using traditional/alternative assets and derivatives.

We have clients of varying size/complexity and embed responsible investment techniques.

Our style of work is to challenge assumptions, financial or otherwise, rebuilding knowledge from first principles until we have a fundamental understanding of an investment topic or client challenge. We value strong IT and AI skills/awareness, but prioritise a questioning mindset, an ability to interrogate and then explain concepts simply, adaptability and a mindset of client care.

Hybrid Way of Work

Our current policy is 3 days per week minimum in the office (London, SE1 2AQ
).

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and run asset models and liability models (ALM) to support consultants on strategy design.
  • Conduct spreadsheet-based analysis on portfolio risk/return for existing and prospective mandates.
  • Liability Hedging:
    Liaise with asset managers to structure LDI (Liability Driven Investment) portfolios, embed within ALM, and finalise LDI mandate parameters.
  • Assist in drafting client strategy packs and final advice regarding strategy design ideas.
Manager Search and Selection
  • Participate in asset manager research meetings covering a range of asset classes.
  • Collate research documentation and produce draft research notes and selection reports.
Implementation
  • Support asset transitions across advisory, OCIO and FM clients:
  • Advisory:
    Liaise with investment managers and clients to support client transitions, drafting manager instruction letters and client communications, ensuring signed documentation is in place by the specified deadlines.
  • OCIO, FM:
    Liaise with MGIM Portfolio Management Team to support monitoring of delegated portfolios and facilitate trade implementation/transitions.
  • Documentation reviews:
    Liaise with new third party managers to support set up including key onboarding steps, IMA reviews, and liaison with MGIM legal team.
Monitoring
  • Undertake monthly and quarterly performance and risk reporting for clients, managing all data inputs into reports and ensuring quality control.
  • Manager monitoring:
    Attend manager monitoring meetings/calls and draft notes.
  • Assist in regular monitoring of LDI portfolios.
Client Management
  • Seek opportunities to engage with end clients to develop a relationship. Look to become a key point of contact for day-to-day queries.
  • Keep on top of market news related to clients and inform client team.
  • Attend some client meetings with the lead consultant.
  • Draft client documents as required, e.g. draft Statement of Investment Principles (SIP) updates.
