Financial Controller

Overview

Finatal is partnering with a PE-backed digital and software services business with turnover of c.£15m, operating in a data-led, project-based environment. The business is seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to lead day-to-day finance operations, strengthen the control environment and provide clear financial insight to support growth and value creation. Reporting to the CFO, this role will balance technical financial ownership with commercial partnering across the organisation, helping to ensure the business is well prepared for exit in around 24 months.

• Lead and develop a small finance team, ensuring high standards of delivery and continuous improvement
• Own the production of timely and accurate monthly management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations
• Manage cashflow, working capital and short- to medium-term cash forecasting
• Play a key role in annual budgeting and periodic reforecasting processes
• Prepare management, board and investor reporting, including KPI analysis and performance commentary
• Partner with project and sales teams to ensure accurate revenue recognition, cost control and margin analysis
• Maintain and improve financial systems, models and processes to support scalability
• Lead statutory reporting, audit processes and liaison with external advisors
• Ensure compliance across tax, payroll, VAT and other regulatory requirements
• Strengthen governance, internal controls and risk management frameworks
• Support the CFO with ad hoc analysis and initiatives aligned to growth and exit readiness

• ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent)
• Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role within a growing, PE-backed or project-led business
• High Flyer with proven career progression & strong educational background
• Strong track record of owning month-end, management reporting and balance sheet control end to end
• Experience managing cashflow, working capital and budgeting processes
• Comfortable operating in a hands-on capacity while partnering credibly with senior stakeholders
• Ability to lead, develop and motivate a small finance team
• Strong technical accounting knowledge with excellent attention to detail
• Advanced Excel skills and experience working with modern finance systems
• Adaptable, resilient and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
