Audit Specialist

An overview

We are excited to be representing a not-for-profit organisation in Central London, in their need for an Audit specialist to join their team, on either an interim or a permanent basis. This opportunity requires someone of a strong technical ability to offer strong influence across the local government landscape, to work within a team and to work closely with stakeholders in order to shape audit standards at a national level.

It will offer a very flexible and generous hybrid working, with occasional travel into London when required. The role will offer a salary of up to £85,000 + benefits.

• Act as a senior audit technical expert, advising leadership, finance teams, and contract managers
• Lead technical discussions with audit firms and support audit contract quality monitoring
• Contribute to audit services procurement, including quality assessments and tender evaluations
• Provide expert guidance on audit law, ethics, independence, and professional standards
• Support investigations into audit-related complaints and deliver clear, practical outcomes
• Develop and deliver audit briefings, guidance, and presentations
• Act as lead or secondary contact for allocated firms on scale fees and fee variations
• Review fee variation submissions, audit approaches, and supporting evidence
• Support annual audit fee strategy, scale fee setting, and related reporting
• Build trusted relationships with audit firms, audited bodies, and sector stakeholders
• Provide expert technical input to discussions with national audit and professional bodies

• Qualified accountant (CCAB or equivalent)
• Strong, current technical knowledge of local government audit
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex issues
• Strong analytical, organisational, and judgement skills
• Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
