In addition to highways maintenance, they cover network management, emergency response services, and traffic management. They have a strong focus on safety, sustainability, and innovation, which enables them to deliver services and large-scale, complex projects in an efficient and environmentally friendly manner.
Your new role
As a Senior SHE Advisor, you will play a key role in supporting the safe and compliant delivery of highways projects across the network. You will provide expert guidance on Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) matters, ensuring all activities are carried out in line with company policies, legal requirements, and industry best practices.

The ideal candidate will have strong highways experience, excellent communication and leadership skills, and a proven ability to influence teams to deliver work safely and responsibly.
Key responsibilities include:
* Provide professional SHE advice and support to operational teams across highways and infrastructure projects.
* Conduct site inspections, audits, and safety tours to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
* Support the development and review of risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.
* Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe behaviours, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
* Promote a positive safety culture through coaching, training, and engagement with site teams and subcontractors.
* Monitor compliance with relevant legislation, company policies, and industry best practices.
* Support environmental and sustainability initiatives across projects, ensuring environmental risks are effectively managed.
* Collaborate with project managers and engineers to identify SHE risks during planning and delivery stages.
About you
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Senior SHE Advisor to join this highways team. In this role, you will support the successful and safe delivery of multiple projects, working closely with operational teams to ensure high standards of safety, health, and environmental performance are maintained across all works.
You will be confident working on active construction sites, capable of influencing teams at all levels, and committed to driving continuous improvement in SHE performance.
Some essentials included below:
* Strong experience within highways or major infrastructure projects
* Experience supporting M&E works within infrastructure environments
* NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) in Occupational Health & Safety
* Strong knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation
* Experience conducting site audits, inspections, and incident investigations
