Overview

Purpose of the Job The Energy Manager is responsible for enabling the client’s energy‑reduction programmes through monitoring, targeting, and interventions on building services. The role has a strong focus on supporting the contract’s dedicated Engineering Maintenance team to ensure client assets are maintained and operated as efficiently as possible.

Responsibilities
  • Building Performance Improvement:
    Perform deep‑dive audits on existing HVAC and electrical systems and identify opportunities or design gaps for optimisation through actionable recommendations.
  • Building Performance Improvement:
    Deliver tactical implementation of BMS optimisation recommendations.
  • Building Performance Improvement:
    Monitor data systems to identify ways of enhancing asset energy performance.
  • Building Performance Improvement:
    Align with the BGIS Building Performance team to ensure connected technologies are used effectively.
  • Building Performance Improvement:
    Support data‑led migration of infrastructure, when applicable, and act as the super‑user of the BGIS AMI platform where required.
  • Energy Monitoring:
    Review data analytics to identify adverse trends and anomalies and produce progress reports.
  • Energy Monitoring:
    Monitor energy performance in line with NABERS principles under the governance of BGIS NABERS assessors.
  • Energy Monitoring:
    Manage energy‑related queries and conduct on‑site investigations, including BMS interventions in collaboration with the Engineering Team.
  • Energy Monitoring:
    Provide technical and operational oversight of utility and non‑utility meter data collection to ensure accurate monitoring, including management of gaps and dropouts.
  • Engagement and Governance:
    Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Engagement and Governance:
    Act as the gatekeeper for maintaining building Design Operations (DESOPS), manage change control, and identify and rectify deviations from DESOPS.
  • Engagement and Governance:
    Support the implementation of client energy and carbon‑efficiency recommendations.
  • Engagement and Governance:
    Liaise with Engineering and Building Performance teams to ensure best practice is maintained.
  • Engagement and Governance:
    Develop an Energy Champions forum, including training and engagement to promote stakeholder awareness of energy and utility usage.
Requirements and Skills
  • Proven experience as an Energy Manager within Building Services.
  • Strong analytical mindset with problem‑solving skills, engineering controls expertise, and the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with BMS/automated controls, including Trend IQ Vision 4, Trend View 8, and Tridium Niagara.
  • Familiarity with administration and management of modern database and information‑system technologies.
  • Experience using energy‑monitoring software such as KIVEEV and Kode Labs.
Essential Experience and Knowledge
  • Experience working effectively with skilled operatives or contractors.
  • Good understanding of energy‑management systems and Net Zero Carbon principles.
  • Experience safely working on a variety of installations, appliances, and equipment.
  • Practical experience with HVAC systems.
  • Excellent understanding of health and safety within the built environment.
  • Practical knowledge of property‑related Health & Safety legislation relating to electrical services (e.g., COSHH, PUWER, Electricity at Work Regulations).
  • Ability to clearly describe and communicate situations requiring remedial actions by suppliers.
  • Ability to produce reports and proposals.
  • Strong fault‑finding skills on building‑services plant equipment and systems.
  • Demonstrable post‑training experience in the maintenance, repair, installation, and fitting of BMS/automated controls.
Desirable
  • Understanding of BREEAM, EPC, NABERS, TM44, LEED, or WELL, with accreditation in at least one being preferable.
  • Good understanding of modern smart systems and IoT technologies.
