Position: Senior Public Health Design Engineer – Contract
Location: Greater London

Overview

Hilson Moran is a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy delivering innovative design solutions across UK and international projects. We are seeking a Public Health Design Engineer on a 12‑month contract to support a range of complex and varied schemes.

You will deliver public health design services across commercial, residential and mixed‑use projects, ensuring high technical standards and supporting project coordination, client communication and quality assurance.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver public health design work on projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Prepare and review calculations, specifications and drawings to meet client briefs.
  • Support project coordination and maintain high technical and quality standards.
  • Lead or contribute to quality control processes and project risk mitigation.
  • Support client communication, fee proposals and identification of scope changes.
  • Produce project references/presentations and help build industry relationships.
About You
  • BSc/MSc in Building Services Engineering Design;
    Chartered/working toward Chartership desirable.
  • Strong expertise in Public Health Engineering (water services, drainage, rainwater systems).
  • Experience across commercial, residential and mixed‑use developments.
  • Knowledge of sustainable and innovative public health design solutions.
  • Strong client‑facing, communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proactive, adaptable and collaborative with strong technical capability.

  • Ability to review and validate technical design outputs.
  • Confident delivering complex projects and advising stakeholders.

Additional qualifications
  • Background &

    Qualifications:

    MSc or BSc in Building Services Engineering Design, with Chartered Engineer status and professional membership of SoPHE are desirable.
  • Expertise in Public Health Design Engineering, covering domestic hot and cold water services, soil, waste, rainwater drainage, and both above and below ground drainage.
  • Experience with rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling, solar hot water, and innovative design solutions is advantageous.
  • Proven experience in commercial (new build, refurbishments, and fit-out), residential, and mixed‑use developments from concept to detailed design.
  • Strong knowledge of Building Services Engineering Systems, including their performance, application, and operation.
  • A proactive, adaptable, and approachable engineer with excellent client-facing and communication skills, demonstrating initiative at all levels.
Additional Skills
  • Strong technical expertise through client presentations, building trust and fostering relationships both internally and externally.
  • Review calculations, specifications, and drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with client requirements.
  • Apply technical skills to successfully deliver complex projects while providing expert guidance to promote innovation and creativity.
  • Communicate effectively with senior clients and stakeholders, assessing project variations and recommending necessary adjustments.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages teamwork, knowledge sharing, and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrate leadership, strong organisational skills, and attention to detail to ensure project milestones are met and successful outcomes achieved.
