Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Intelligent Building Engineer
Location: Greater London

About the role:

As an Intelligent Building Engineer, you will join a growing specialist team delivering intelligent building solutions across a diverse portfolio of commercial properties. You will develop a practical understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in live commercial buildings, learning how to diagnose performance issues, optimise plant operation and support measurable energy reduction.

This role offers hands‑on exposure to how commercial buildings operate in practice. You will work alongside experienced engineers and property professionals, developing a strong understanding of mechanical systems, BMS, energy performance and real‑world building optimisation.

You will support both project delivery and live building performance, helping to improve operational efficiency, reduce energy use and enhance the occupier experience.

This position is well suited to a building services, mechanical or engineering graduate who is curious about how buildings truly perform, motivated by sustainability and operational improvement.

We operate at the intersection of property, engineering and data, supporting asset managers and landlords to improve operational performance, reduce energy intensity and create better environments for occupiers.

Our work focuses on understanding how buildings actually perform in operation, combining technology with practical engineering expertise to deliver measurable, real-world outcomes.

The role is structured around three core functions
  • Assisting with system integration and site delivery
  • Supporting building performance monitoring and optimisation
  • Helping develop and refine IBOS products and services
What matters most in this role

A strong foundation in mechanical and electrical building services is essential. You should have a good understanding of how commercial buildings operate, including HVAC systems, plant, controls and BMS. An awareness of how facilities management interacts with these systems in practice is important.

You will support the full lifecycle of IBOS delivery, from assisting with proposals and coordinating installations to monitoring live building performance and helping resolve technical issues on site. A practical, problem-solving mindset is key.

You should be comfortable working with building data, analysing performance trends and clearly communicating findings to clients and internal teams. The ability to link system behaviour to real operational outcomes is critical.

Building strong working relationships is central to the role. You will work closely with clients, contractors, in‑house teams and on‑site FM providers to ensure buildings operate efficiently and effectively.

An interest in innovation and emerging technologies within building services and controls will help ensure IBOS continues to evolve and remain relevant within the market.

Other duties will include
  • Supporting the coordination and delivery of IBOS installations, including assisting with system integration, commissioning and site validation.
  • Working alongside senior engineers to review HVAC and control system performance, identifying areas for optimisation and improvement.
  • Assisting with trend analysis from BMS and metering systems to support energy reduction and operational efficiency initiatives.
  • Supporting root cause investigations into plant and system inefficiencies across live sites.
  • Engaging with on‑site facilities teams and contractors to help ensure optimisation strategies are understood and implemented effectively.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of IBOS tools, processes and reporting methods based on site experience.
What we expect of you
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • A strong interest in building controls, HVAC systems and how commercial buildings operate in practice. Previous exposure to BMS or controls systems is advantageous but not essential.
  • An interest in energy performance, operational efficiency and measurable reductions in energy use and carbon emissions.
  • A practical, problem‑solving mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Confidence working with technical information and building data, with the ability to communicate findings clearly in both written reports and verbal discussions.
  • The ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors and on‑site facilities teams.
  • A flexible approach to work, with willingness to spend time on site as well as in the office.
  • Willingness to travel across the UK as required.
