We are seeking a highly capable Manufacturing Automation Engineer to join a growing Digital Solutions team focused on enabling manufacturing innovation, operational excellence, and Industry 4.0 transformation.
In this hands‑on, consulting‑focused role, you will collaborate with manufacturing sites and operational teams to identify automation opportunities, design and deliver pilots, and help establish scalable patterns across MES, SCADA, IIoT, robotics, and data‑driven manufacturing.
You will work on a wide range of digital and automation initiatives-from lightweight proofs of concept to cross‑site assessments-helping operational teams understand new technologies and adopt modern manufacturing practices.
Key Responsibilities
Lead small consulting engagements to frame problems, define scope, and deliver automation pilots.
Conduct site diagnostics and identify automation and Industry 4.0 opportunities, translating findings into actionable recommendations.
Design and implement proofs of concept to validate technology choices and demonstrate early value.
Develop reference architectures and reusable patterns across MES, SCADA, IIoT, edge/AI, and related technologies.
Produce clear handover documentation to enable operational teams to own and scale solutions.
Work closely with integrators and technology partners as an informed client while retaining ownership of problem definition and technical decision‑making.
Mentor junior analysts and engineers, supporting them through coaching and shared on‑site delivery.
Ensure solutions align with OT/IT, cyber, and safety standards and follow best practices.
Contribute to shared playbooks, standards, and pattern libraries to support consistent manufacturing innovation across teams. Required Experience
3-6 years of experience in manufacturing, automation, or Industry 4.0 environments
Exposure to MES, SCADA, PLCs, IIoT, or industrial data systems
Experience working within factory or operational settings
Ability to translate operational issues into viable technical solutions
Comfortable engaging with multiple sites, teams, and stakeholders
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non‑technical audiences
Willingness to travel based on project needs
Desirable Experience
Practical exposure to AI or robotics within manufacturing environments
Professional Attributes
Passion for learning and applying emerging technologies to solve real-world problems
Strong interpersonal and consulting skills
Coaching mentality with an interest in developing others
Creative, resourceful, and pragmatic problem‑solver
Ability to navigate complex organisations and socialise new ideas
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Curiosity for evolving technology landscapes and how they can support operational goals Location
This role is based in London, with project‑dependent travel to UK and international manufacturing sites.
