Associate Director – Building Surveyor (Head of FRAEW Services)

Full‑time permanent position based in London, UK, reporting to the Operations Director.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a high calibre Associate Director level Chartered Building Surveyor (MRICS) to lead and grow the FRAEW specialist team and service line. You will join our growing team of Building Surveyors, Project Managers, Fire Engineers and Compliance specialists in delivering FRAEW and EWS1 services and project works on behalf of both public and private clients. You will also deliver building surveying and project management services, develop FRAEW remedial works recommendations into full project delivery and collaborate closely with the Head Building Consultancy.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and grow the FRAEW team, building client relationships and delivering exceptional service
  • Assist with the preparation of tender submissions for new and existing client bases
  • Produce fee proposals for FRAEW, building surveying and project management services
  • Manage the commercial performance of the FRAEW team including financial forecasting
  • Liaise with finance and operations teams to facilitate end‑of‑month billing
  • Assist with development and implementation of the business planning process
  • Assist with recruitment of new staff including initial selection, interview and appointment
  • Manage team personnel, including resource reviews, delivering training and development initiatives
  • Carry out internal training to develop junior members of the FRAEW team into independent surveyors
  • Continually appraise technical developments and statutory requirements within the field
  • Assist in the development and updating of the QMS and QA systems as required
  • Deliver FRAEW surveys and reporting (including EWS1 forms) across a range of properties
  • Carry out internal QA of team FRAEW reports and EWS1 forms
  • Carry out FRAEW audits for the Cladding Safety and Responsible Actors Scheme contract
  • Prepare feasibility studies and options appraisals, incorporating cost analysis
  • Deliver design, specification, tendering and project management services as required
  • Undertake surveys and provide reports as per client’s requirements
  • Undertake defect inspections and provide technical advice for remediation
  • Carry out contract administration, employer’s agent and project management duties when required
Qualifications and Experience
  • Chartered Building Surveyor (MRICS)
  • Successfully completed the ABBE Level 6 RICS EWS training course
  • Commitment to CPD
  • Direct client liaison and account management experience
  • Experience writing fee proposals and promoting company services
  • Experience delivering FRAEW and EWS1 services, including intrusive investigations, drafting and reviewing PAS
    9980 reports
  • Experience planning and delivering large‑scale survey delivery programmes
  • Experience delivering project management services, with project values up to £2m
  • Experience managing a team, setting budgets and financial forecasting
  • Experience delivering contract administration and employer’s agent services
