Position: CHP Field Engineer (Engineering Technician) - East

Job title: CHP Field Engineer

Location: Regional based in the SE. Some travel within the UK and overseas may be required.

Reporting to: Area Supervisor

Staff reporting directly: None

Basic salary: £39,740 + £4,128 South Weighting, on‑call payment up to £2,000pa. Overtime up to 8 hours per week. Certification payments:
Gas Safe £1,500pa, 18th Edition £1,000pa, HV Switching £1,000pa.

Responsibilities
  • Day‑to‑day operations and maintenance, including fault diagnosis, location and rectification.
  • Planned maintenance and breakdown response for generating assets with minimum outages.
  • Commitment to continuous enhancement of skills and knowledge, and that of the technicians working with you.
  • Avoid unnecessary expenditure by using skills and tools available within the company.
  • Ensuring a stock of basic spare parts as detailed by the Area Supervisor is replenished and always available.
  • Commitment to Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental practices following all procedures and using your own judgement.
  • Reducing the company’s reliance on contractors wherever this is economically prudent.
  • Compliance and implementation of company protection procedures with a proactive approach to maintaining, monitoring, reporting and auditing.
  • Managing your time and travel effectively, staying away from home when appropriate.
  • Compliance with all legislation.
  • Seek guidance and advice from the Engineering and Management team if unsure.
Key Tasks
  • Utilisation and compliance with the company’s operations and maintenance procedures, manuals, record‑keeping and stock control systems.
  • Execution of all generator maintenance and use of Operations staff to undertake minor maintenance on generators as required by management.
  • Maintenance and repair of all mechanical, PV, storage, heat and electrical plant, including pumps and motors at all facilities.
  • Maintenance and inspection of LV electrical equipment subject to training and competency.
  • Operation of HV switch gear subject to training and competency.
  • Commissioning of new‑build associated equipment.
  • Incorporation of new sites into Operations.
  • Repair and maintenance of generators.
  • Training, support and supervision of Operations Technicians to undertake minor maintenance and simple fault finding.
  • Provide 24‑hour emergency call‑out cover to respond to generator set failures when necessary.
  • Ordering and cost control of spares and control of stock.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner with customer engagement and delivering clean, well‑run sites at all times.
  • Contractor supervision.
  • Implementation of HSQE systems.
  • Commitment to training to enhance knowledge and skill in regard to environmental protection and materials.
  • Compliance and implementation of company environmental protection procedures with a proactive approach to maintaining, monitoring, reporting and auditing, and updating company systems.
  • Conduct air emissions monitoring.
  • Compilation and completion of outstanding works raised by site audits.
  • Ensure company vehicles in your care are clean, maintained to manufacturer’s specification and in keeping with policy.
  • Deal directly with environmental spillages using pollution prevention equipment and materials.
  • Any reasonable task required by the management in the exercising of its goals.
Knowledge / Experience
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of electrical, heat and mechanical maintenance.
  • Recognised level in an electrical skill or relevant experience in the field.
  • Experience with electric control systems 12 V DC, 415 V AC, 30 V.
  • Fault location, diagnosis and rectification.
  • Gas Safe accreditation or ability to complete within probation.
  • Electrical qualification or ability to complete 18th edition within probation.
  • Experience working with natural gas peaker plants, CHP, PV, energy storage, HVAC systems is advantageous.
