Engineering Manager / Technical Team Lead – AI Automation (Backend)

Role: Engineering Manager / Technical Team Lead – AI Adoption / Automation

Are you interested in working with one of the fastest growing enterprise Fin Tech scale Ups in the UK to help lead their AI adoption. We are looking for an Engineering Manager / Technical Team Leader who has commercial experience building software solutions utilising AI coding tools such as:
Git Hub Copilot, Claude, Google Gemini, Cursor, Codeium, Tabnine or Codex

You’ll work closely with Product, Compliance, Operations, and Engineering teams to identify where automation and AI can remove friction, reduce risk, improve consistency, and strengthen control in critical workflows. The emphasis is firmly on production-ready delivery not experimentation for its own sake.

This role sits at the intersection of engineering leadership and hands‑on technical direction. You’ll mentor and grow engineers, shape ways of working, and set the technical approach for how automation is designed, built, governed, and scaled.

• Lead the delivery of AI-enabled automation across multiple business domains
• Identify and solve complex operational and product workflows using automation and systems integration
• Own the approach to production-grade AI adoption, including guardrails, governance, and quality control
• Lead and mentor engineers, supporting career development, performance, and team growth
• Work closely with Product, Compliance, Operations, and domain engineering teams to deliver measurable outcomes
• Influence technical direction and long-term strategy for automation and AI across the wider organisation
• Ensure automation solutions integrate cleanly with APIs, cloud services, and data platforms (not siloed tools)
• Node.js / Type Script / MongoDB
• AWS (Lambda, ECS, VPC, serverless patterns)
• Observability, monitoring, alerting, and production support
• You’ll also work alongside engineers using low‑code automation platforms, ensuring the right balance of speed, governance, and maintainability.

• Proven ability to mentor and grow engineers while still staying close to technical delivery
• Practical experience introducing AI coding assistance / AI enabled tooling into engineering teams, including safe adoption and guardrails
