Estimator – Building
Purpose:
Develop tender information for “suitable projects” into a competent financial submission to secure work and meet business objectives.
On larger projects, support the senior project estimator in producing competitive cost estimates.
Prepare cost plans and undertake cost planning exercises as required.
Collaborate with the tender/bidding team to maximise opportunities and minimise risks to achieve the best possible project cost.
Contribute to cost monitoring exercises on live sites where necessary.
Support ongoing framework and target cost projects.
Assist other preconstruction, estimating, and commercial teams where needed.
Key Accountabilities
Prepare all financial elements of the tendering process, from initial identification to financial handover.
Support the senior project estimator on larger projects to develop competitive cost estimates.
Prepare financial documents for review by senior leadership.
Assist the bidding team with post-tender negotiations as required.
Ensure all financial figures are accurate and correctly recorded in the estimating system.
Maintain benchmarking data from completed tenders and secured projects.
Collaborate with internal teams for financial and cost input into submissions.
Liaise with potential joint venture partners and external clients or professional teams as necessary.
Price preliminaries, design fees, and other relevant elements in conjunction with project leadership.
Conduct risk and opportunity analysis and prepare fully costed schedules.
Ensure inflation and fixed-price additions are incorporated into tender prices.
Work with procurement on subcontractor selection and price improvement opportunities.
Contribute cost input to alternative methods, specifications, value engineering, temporary works, and programme options.
Mentor junior staff members.
Undertake cost planning tasks from concept to completion.
Drive quality assurance initiatives and process improvement plans.
Champion electronic tendering practices and integration of BIM.
Understand and integrate carbon cost values into tenders for net-zero considerations.
Ensure adherence to all relevant company policies, including health and safety, ethics, environment, and sustainability.
Collect feedback from live projects and participate in lessons-learned sessions.
