The Opportunity

We are supporting a well-known, top-tier consultancy with a strong national presence in the UK water and environmental sector, who are expanding their hydrology team across multiple offices.

They are seeking an experienced Senior to Principal Hydrologist to lead and deliver hydrological analysis, modelling, and advice across water resources, flood risk, drainage, and environmental projects. The role offers exposure to high-profile water company frameworks, environmental assessments, and consultancy-led infrastructure programmes.

The Role

You will take responsibility for the delivery of complex hydrology projects, provide technical leadership, and mentor junior staff. Your work will support strategic water management, environmental compliance, and the delivery of capital programmes for clients across the UK.

Key responsibilities include:

* Leading hydrological assessments, water balance studies, and flood risk analyses for water, wastewater, and environmental projects

* Developing and applying hydrological and hydraulic models (e.g., FEH, HEC-RAS, Info Works, MIKE, or similar)

* Providing technical input to water resource planning, drainage strategies, and environmental impact assessments

* Advising clients on water availability, flood risk, climate change impacts, and regulatory compliance

* Managing project teams, mentoring junior hydrologists, and ensuring technical quality

* Engaging directly with clients, regulators, and project partners

* Contributing to bids, framework submissions, and business development at a senior level

About You

This role requires strong experience in hydrology and water-related projects. Candidates must have a proven track record delivering hydrological analysis in the consultancy or water sector.

You will have:

* Extensive experience in hydrology, water resources, or flood risk consultancy

* Proven ability to deliver projects from technical assessment to client reporting

* Experience with hydrological/hydraulic modelling tools (FEH, HEC-RAS, Info Works, MIKE, or equivalent)

* Strong technical understanding of UK water environment, flood risk legislation, and regulatory frameworks

* Excellent project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills

For Principal level candidates:

* Demonstrated leadership of multi-disciplinary teams or hydrology functions

* Proven involvement in bids, frameworks, or business development

* Track record of mentoring, developing staff, and driving technical excellence

Why Join?

* Work with a top-tier, nationally recognised consultancy in the water and environmental sector

* Exposure to high-profile water, environmental, and infrastructure projects across the UK

* Supportive and collaborative consultancy culture with hybrid working options
