Job Description

Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow. For over 100 years, BP has focused on discovering, developing, and producing oil and gas in the nations where we operate. We are one of the few companies globally that can provide governments and customers with an integrated energy offering. Delivering our strategy sustainably is fundamental to achieving our ambition to be a net zero company by 2050 or sooner.

At bp Supply, Trading and Shipping (bp ST&S), our purpose is to work across bp and our industry to bring energy solutions to our customers and support bp's energy transition. We connect energy producers, suppliers, markets and customers to keep energy flowing today and help build out tomorrow’s energy system.

Joining us means becoming part of a global, diverse, inclusive, and collaborative team committed to highest standards and operational excellence, ensuring we operate in a safe, compliant and efficient way at all times. We are driving initiatives that enhance energy efficiency, sustainability, and energy transition, making a positive contribution to the industry.

This role sits within the Shipping Optimisation team and is essential to our commercial performance strategy in bp ST&S. The team focuses on delivering commercial value by improving energy efficiency in ship operations, leveraging digital tools, and collaborating across functions to generate value faster and smarter.

We are seeking an experienced, data-driven technical lead to execute energy efficiency activities and deliver optimisation initiatives across our operated, and chartered tanker fleet. In this role, you will combine technical expertise with strong analytical skills to achieve operational improvements and measurable impact through energy efficiency activities, vessel/voyage performance optimisation, and implementation of digital solutions that enable our performance improvement strategy.

You will work closely with technical, commercial, operational and digital teams to ensure timely execution of agreed actions to meet business objectives, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Identify deviations from benchmarks, investigate root causes, and recommend actionable improvements to increase upside.
  • Manage data collection and validation from noon reports, connected sensors, and electronic logs to ensure availability, integrity, accuracy and auditability of records.
  • Project implementation of digital connectivity projects related to vessel performance systems. Supervise operation of digital tools and dashboards for energy efficiency monitoring and provide timely reporting to management.
  • Enhance vessel and voyage optimisation capability of the team, establish performance benchmarks, and provide insights to partners on best-performing ships for specific trades.
  • Collaborate with bp TC partners, internal teams, and service providers to drive vessel performance and optimisation activities.
  • Prepare and review optimisation models, including case evaluations and benefit tracking for operational and technical interventions. Identify innovative opportunities to add commercial value and reduce value leakage.
  • Optimise emissions-related costs (ETS/FuelEU/IMO) while ensuring strict compliance with international and regional regulations.
  • Conduct detailed post-voyage assessments to capture findings, improve voyage planning, and enhance predictive performance models.
  • Interpret charter party clauses and provide data analytics and reports to support vessel underperformance claims to prevent value leakage.
