As a Fire Alarm Engineer, you will assist the Lead Project Engineer in delivering all aspects of fire alarm installs (minor and major works). Your key responsibility is to report progress and maintain the standard of work before hand‑over. You must have strong installation knowledge, including electrical standards (especially containment) and Fire Standards to BS 5839 Pt 1.
Role OverviewThis role will allow you to perform fire alarm risk assessments and requirements (HSP 12) at many Thames Water sites. In‑house training will be provided to help you progress toward a Project Engineer role, taking on all aspects of Health & Safety management for your portfolio of projects. The following outlines the full job requirements and expectations.
Responsibilities- Site visits to assess the quality of contractors' work against all standards.
- Compile and report findings, including photos.
- Advise and scope works with a contractor to resolve problems.
- Carry out site fire alarm assessments and requirements to BS 5839‑1.
- Scope/write specification documents.
- Health & Safety management for your portfolio of projects.
- Assess tenders.
- Financial management.
- Programme management.
- Communication, technical assistance to key stakeholders/customers.
- Ensure all asset data is captured and updated at the end of a project.
- Be a Project Engineer located in the West London/Thames Valley area, covering Thames Water sites.
- Be prepared to travel to various sites each week, with some journeys possibly amounting to an approximate 150‑mile round‑trip.
Your base location will be within South West London.
Travel RequirementsYou must hold a full UK driving licence, have access to your vehicle and insurance to cover work travel, and will receive a car allowance paid monthly.
Working HoursMonday to Friday, 36 hours per week.
Essential Criteria- Experience with in a commercial and/or technical role.
- FIA BS 5839‑1 Fundamental or equivalent certification in Fire Alarm principles and standards.
- Training or relevant work experience.
- Full UK driving licence and own transport.
- Ability to work unsupervised and use initiative to deliver specified outputs.
- Offering up to £55,000 per annum, including car allowance, depending on experience and skills.
- 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with length of service (plus bank holidays).
- Contributory pension – Defined Contribution – Maximum of 12% – 2x employee contribution.
