Job Description

Position Overview

The Lead Railway Architect/Structural Engineer plays a crucial role in the design, planning, and implementation of railway infrastructure projects.

This role involves a combination of architectural and engineering expertise to ensure the safe, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing construction and maintenance of railway structures.

The position holder shall collaborate with various stakeholders, including engineers, designers, project managers, and government agencies, to create sustainable and functional railway systems.

Hybrid - Must be willing to travel internationally, including flights, hotel and expenses paid.

Contract - 2 years

Responsibilities
  • Design and Planning:
    • Develop architectural and structural designs for railway stations, platforms, bridges, tunnels, viaducts, and other related structures.
    • Utilise CAD software and other design tools to create detailed plans, drawings, and specifications for railway projects.
    • Ensure designs meet safety regulations, structural integrity standards, and aesthetic requirements.
  • Structural Analysis:
    • Perform structural analysis using engineering software to assess the strength, stability, and load‑bearing capacity of railway structures.
    • Identify potential risks, weaknesses, and areas for improvement in existing and proposed designs.
    • Recommend design modifications or enhancements based on analysis results.
  • Material Selection:
    • Choose appropriate construction materials considering factors such as durability, cost‑effectiveness, and environmental impact.
    • Collaborate with materials experts to assess the suitability of innovative materials for railway projects.
  • Project Management:
    • Collaborate with project managers to develop project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans.
    • Monitor project progress and ensure that designs are implemented according to specifications and timelines.
    • Address any unexpected challenges or changes during construction.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Stay updated on railway industry regulations, codes, and safety standards.
    • Ensure that all designs and construction activities adhere to relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Stakeholder

    Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with various teams, including civil engineers, electrical engineers, urban planners, and landscape architects, to integrate different aspects of railway projects.
    • Communicate effectively with government agencies, contractors, and clients to ensure project goals are met.
  • Environmental Considerations:
    • Incorporate sustainable design principles into railway projects to minimize environmental impact.
    • Explore energy‑efficient solutions, green technologies, and eco‑friendly materials.
  • Quality Control and Inspection:
    • Conduct on‑site inspections to ensure construction activities align with design specifications.
    • Identify and address any deviations, defects, or safety concerns.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain detailed project documentation, including design drawings, reports, and correspondence.
    • Prepare progress reports and present design concepts to clients and stakeholders.
  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
    • Professional licensure or certification in engineering or architecture.
    • Proficiency in CAD software and structural analysis tools.
    • Strong understanding of railway engineering principles, materials, and construction techniques.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
    • Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
    • Knowledge of relevant regulations and codes in the railway industry.
