About the Role

As a Submarine Safety Engineering Consultant you will provide technical safety support and subject‑matter advice across current and future submarine and underwater system projects, directly supporting the UK submarine community. Your knowledge of submarine operations, maintenance and repair processes will help deliver safety projects on time, within budget and in line with UK legislation and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support safety project delivery to schedule, quality and budget.
  • Develop and manage hazard logs, facilitate HAZID and hazard review meetings.
  • Author safety assessment/safety case reports and justify ALARP status.
  • Maintain and interpret safety legislation, regulations and standards relevant to UK MOD submarine safety.
  • Present professionally to customers, providing clear written and verbal communication.
Requirements
  • Experience in operation and/or maintenance of Royal Navy submarines and equipment.
  • Knowledge of appropriate technical documentation and safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with safety management for nuclear facilities, including authorising conditions and site licensing arrangements.
  • Experience with UK MOD safety regulations: DSA Regulations, Defence Nuclear Safety Regulations, Naval Authority Certification, SDA Safety Policy.
  • Professional qualifications such as IEng or CEng preferred; support for professional registration is available.
  • Eligibility for UK Security Clearance at SC level.
