Location: Greater London

Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a Material Controller on a 2 year contract, located Norfolk.

Role Summary

The Materials Controller plays a critical role in supporting substation construction and maintenance projects, ensuring the timely and accurate flow of materials from procurement to installation. This position is essential for maintaining operational efficiency, safety compliance, and inventory accuracy across high‑voltage infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inventory Management – Maintain accurate records of stock quantities, locations, and movements; monitor stock levels and coordinate with procurement to ensure timely availability of materials; document all material transactions and generate reports as required.
  • Procurement & Supplier Coordination – Collaborate with suppliers to obtain quotes, create purchase orders, and ensure on‑time delivery; communicate regularly with suppliers regarding order status, delivery schedules, and changes.
  • Material Planning – Analyse project schedules to determine material requirements; develop and implement material planning strategies aligned with construction phases.
  • Site Logistics – Organise and optimise warehouse or storage areas using efficient labelling and storage systems; coordinate with site teams to ensure smooth delivery and handling of materials.
  • Quality & Compliance – Work with quality assurance teams to verify incoming materials meet required standards; ensure adherence to all site safety and environmental regulations; identify and resolve any material‑related quality issues promptly.
  • Process Improvement – Identify opportunities for cost‑saving and efficiency improvements; support strategic logistics planning and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Deliverables
  • Reliable and up‑to‑date inventory records.
  • Timely material specification documentation.
  • Efficient coordination with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Well‑organised and compliant storage areas.
  • Accurate analysis of material needs based on project plans.
Requirements
  • Experience in materials control or logistics within construction or energy sectors.
  • Familiarity with substation components and high‑voltage equipment.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in inventory management systems and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Understanding of health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Telehandler Certification.
  • CSCS/ECS/CCNSG.
