AKT II was formed in 1996 and since then has grown to 350 people, while building a reputation for award‑winning innovation, creativity and delivery.

Position

We are currently looking for a highly motivated Chartered Structural Engineer to assist in the management of an engineering team / projects within the structural engineering group at Associate level, reporting to a Management Director.

We value experience in design and project management of structural and civil engineering projects. Experience on large‑scale projects and a strong awareness of the construction industry is required. The role also includes financial management and control of the design process, with team‑management experience desirable. Commercial acumen to assist in key project decisions is expected.

Responsibilities
  • Managing projects effectively and efficiently
  • Managing a team and planning resources
  • Acting as key client interface at a technical project level
  • Developing designs from early concept stage through to final construction issue information
  • Attending Design Team meetings with clients, other design collaborators and communicating design ideas through sketches, models and presentations
  • Evaluating project challenges and mitigating risks with support of the Associate Director/Management Director
  • Complying with AKT’s Quality Management Systems/Procedures
  • Providing technical support and training to staff
  • Participating in forums to assist in development of new ideas/innovation to promote and improve the company’s design reputation
  • Interface with wider businesses within the Group to maximise potential opportunities to offer full delivery of available Services
  • Overall project management including program and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery
  • Reporting on a regular basis to the Senior Management team, ensuring accurate and timely reports of key project deliverables
  • Completing performance reviews, managing attendance, holidays and staff wellbeing issues with HR support
  • Assisting in drafting invoicing forecasts for projects with support of Management Directors
  • Ensuring strong team communication to facilitate exchanges of information and knowledge across the wider practice
  • Supporting and participating in AKT II’s Technical agenda
  • Complying with responsibilities as defined in the Group’s Health, Safety & Environment Policy and ensuring compliance throughout the team
  • Preparing and managing Project Execution Plans
  • Preparing and managing the Project Inception Document
  • Representing the business, including related disciplines, at external meetings
Required Skills
  • Excellent technical background in the design of building structures in all traditional materials
  • Good communicator and team worker, with experience managing and leading projects across a range of industry sectors and geographic locations
  • Enthusiastic, proactive and able to work on own initiative
  • Open to change and continual improvement
  • High level of IT literacy and desire to nurture and develop team members to maximise their potential
  • Proven design and project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget
  • Thorough knowledge of UK design standards and documentation practices
  • Previous exposure with developers, major contractors, clients of both national and local authorities as well as leading Architects is highly desirable
Qualifications
  • Good engineering degree
  • Fellow or Chartered Member of an industry related Professional Body i.e. CEng, MIStruct

    E / MICE
  • Proven leadership and relevant experience in the management and delivery of design for major building projects
  • Experience in delivery of complete lifecycle projects through to completion
  • Solid foundation as a general practitioner with clear understanding of interdisciplinary collaboration in building design; proven ability to work effectively within wider project teams…
