Rail and Road Fire Risk Assessor

WSP in the UK & Ireland is looking for a Rail and Road Fire Risk Assessor to join our dynamic Railways Fire Engineering Team.

Role Overview

You will be responsible for developing fire engineering design for Rail and Road infrastructure from concept design through to construction, assurance and commissioning. You will carry out fire risk assessments and provide solutions for retrofitting existing and challenging infrastructures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process of Rail infrastructure and Road Tunnel design and planning.
  • Use of Technical Guidance and Standards in Fire Safety for Rail, Road and other building infrastructures.
  • Apply regulatory reforms, fire safety order and CD352 tunnel systems design.
  • Understand building evacuation principles within rail and road environments.
  • Assist with fire safety risk assessments and survey systems such as BS 5839 parts 1 and 8, fire suppression systems and firefighter intervention facilities for compliance.
  • Set out portable fire suppression to BS 5306 and escape lighting to BS 5266 part 1.
  • Support the project lead to complete tasks within time and budget.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and understand their needs.
  • Work away from home and occasionally at night.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Knowledge and experience in Railways and Road Tunnel Fire Engineering and Fire Risk Assessments.
  • Relevant qualification in fire risk assessment (PAS 79 or equivalent) is a plus but not essential.
  • A general knowledge in Fire Engineering or another applicable engineering experience.
  • Ability to learn and grow into the role of a risk assessor.
