The Role
As a senior hydrogeologist, you will be part of a large team of water resources specialists, supporting and learning from hydro geologists, hydrologists, water quality specialists, asset planners and engineers as they deliver a wide range of services for UK and international clients. Your work will contribute to projects in public water supply, borehole construction, dewatering, consents, groundwater quality, abstraction impact assessments, groundwater modelling, catchment conceptualisation and management.
YouWill Be Responsible For
- Providing senior technical advice across groundwater modelling, groundwater quality, the Water Framework Directive, geo‑environmental studies, engineering hydrogeology and groundwater risk assessments.
- Contributing to bid and proposal writing across water resources, environmental and engineering sectors.
- Analysing data using Modflow, ArcGIS, QGIS, Python and Microsoft Excel.
- Producing high‑quality reports for clients.
In addition to technical work, you will have opportunities to develop project management skills, business development, client engagement and people management.
Candidate Specification Essential- Degree level qualification in hydrogeology, geology, environmental science, mathematics or a related discipline.
- Strong communication and written skills.
- Well organised, able to prioritise workload with minimal supervision and support junior team members.
- Logical and pragmatic problem‑solving ability with attention to detail and a motivation to innovate.
- Understanding of health, safety, wellbeing and environmental priorities.
- Experience with quantitative assessment of groundwater problems and understanding of different groundwater flow systems.
- Experience analysing environmental datasets including groundwater levels, river flows and climate data.
- Experience delivering projects according to national regulations and guidance.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Knowledge of groundwater modelling software (e.g., MODFLOW).
- Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python) and GIS tools (ArcGIS or QGIS).
- Postgraduate level qualification in hydrogeology, water resources management or a related discipline.
- Professional consultancy experience in water resources.
- Chartership with an appropriate professional body (e.g., Geological Society, CIWEM, ICE).
